Cell Division
I. What is the Cell Cycle?A cell cycle is the path that a cell goes through in order to divide,it is divided into 5 phases in order to grow, repair, and divide the eukaryotic cell. There is two types of cell division: Mitosis and meiosis, both are very similar. It consists in the phases of Interphase,Mitosis, metaphase, anaphase, telophase and cytokinesis. At the end of the cell cycle two distinct daughter cells are formed with the exact same genetic information

II. What is mitosis?Mitosis is when cells are separated into two identical cells.I learned that theres's five phases a cell needs to go before division which are the following: Metaphase,Anaphase,Telophase and Cytokinesis.During metaphase the chromosomes form a line on the center of the nucleus this organization leds to the next phase which is anaphase when the paired chromosomes separate and go to opposites sides of the cell then the next phase is telophase where the chromatids are in opposites poles and new mambranes are form around the nuclei of the daughter, cytokinesis begins during this stage when two daughter cells with a one nucleus are formed.

III. What is meiosis?I learned that meiosis is a type of cell division in which a cell's number of chromosomes are reduced into a half, there is two phases: Meiosis I in which each chromosome is replicated and then the cells begin to divide each chromosome pairing up with its corresponding same relation cell(homologous) to form a group of set of four(tetrad). The second phase is meiosis II when 4 daughter cells are made each with half the number of chromosomes of the parent cell.

IV. Mitosis v. MeiosisOn this lesson I learned a lot of differences and similarities between mitosis and meiosis. The similarities are that both have a cytokinesis that occurs during telophase, both occur in eukaryotic cells, they are types of cell division, create new cells by the separation of old cells. The differences between this two types of cell division are that in mitosis cells can be diploid or haploid while in meiosis only diploid cells are formed,in meiosis four daughter cells are formed and in mitosis two daughter cells are made, meiosis is for sexual reproduction and mitosis is for growth, repair damaged cells and duplication.
